5.2 ) Paint Wash
Technique of highlighting model details among crevices or base of protruding objects. Paint paste is sufficiently diluted with either alcohol or paint thinner solution to flow easily into the depressions. Excess paint is removed with additional solvents ( ex. paint thinner, window cleaner ). Used in conjunction with Dry Brush.
Sample 1 : Top view of 1.35th TAMIYA Panther tank, enamel black paint wash on engine deck and turret areas. Wash was applied with paint brush, excess paint removed via Q-tip cotton swab soaked in paint thinner.

Sample 2 : Front view of 1.35th TAMIYA Stug III self-propelled assault gun, acrylic dark earth paint wash used on model surface, this example required multiple coats for effect.

Sample 3 : 1.48th MONOGRAM Hawker Hurricane with black paint wash in its crevices, thinner-dosed cotton swab about remove excess paint wash. Rollover : model surface after excess paint wash removal, method used was to gently swipe cotton swab over target surface and let the thinner soften the paint wash for about 1 minute, then repeat the swipe until desired paint wash amount was removed.

Step #1, apply black paint wash via brush onto crevices.

Step #2, remove excess paint with thinner-dipped paint brush.

Step #3, resulting finished product of highlighted areas.
