  • 31 Jan 1945 : US 78th Infantry Division soldiers advancing through Kesternich-Germany, passing two hetz sizedknocked-out Hetzers among residential ruins. Right Hetzer had roof compartment completely blown open from internal denotations. Left Hetzer seems to be painted with winter white-wash camouflage.

  • Hetzer's compact size was ideal for concealment and ambushes in heavily foliage and build-up urban areas, and hide inside barns or partially destroyed buildings.

  • Rollover : Hetzer #201, presumably on Eastern Front, painted with sharp-edged camouflage, tipped over by either aerial strikes or artillery barrage.

  • Inset : Side by side comparison of two famous German WW2 tank destroyers : Hetzer and Jadgpanther. Although crew compartment was cramped, Hetzer smaller size was ideal for armor ambushes. Jadgpanther, based on German Panther tank chassis, had larger crew quarters and packed the more powerful 8.8cm PAK43 L/71 gun. PAK is German acronym for Panzerabwehrkanone (anti-tank gun). Being more expensive and effort to manufacture, only about 380 Jadgpanthers were built compared to about 1580 Hetzers. Crew ( Besatzung ) = 4
    Armament ( Bewaffnung ) = 7.5cm KwK 42 L/70 gun, MG34 machine gun
